What kind of music do you play at cocktail hour?
What kind of music do you play at cocktail hour?
Where dinner is typically the slowest music of a wedding reception and dancing is the fastest, with a higher BPM, cocktail hour can be the part of the evening with medium tempo music. If you have music or songs that don’t quite fit in during dinner or aren’t hype enough for the dancing portion, cocktail hour is a good time to play them.
Examples of cocktail hour music could be string quartet music, Buena Vista Social Club/ light latin music, soft EDM music, motown, chill afro beats etc.
What kind of mood do you want to create? Is there a certain feeling you want guests to feel?
Your venue could also influence the music choice you play during this time. Talk to your DJ about your vision, the venue and what you’d like to create. An experienced DJ will know what to play with these cues. If you don’t have a preference, leave it up to your DJ and they will play what they think is best. If you have requests, give them 5-10 requests.
